History
'Jumbo' was released in 1970 by B. Fry of the University of Georgia. 'Jumbo' was selected from the cross 'Higgins' x Ga. 43-17. 'Jumbo' was selected for its large size and purple color.
Comments
'Jumbo' was released as a large sized black colored variety. The problem with 'Jumbo' is the poor berry quality due to thick skins, relatively low sugar content, and poor flavor.
I do not recommend planting 'Jumbo' because of this poor fruit quality, there are now several black varieties that are better choices.
